Source description

Support: White marble base with plain mouldings above and below on three sides (w: 0.49 × h: 0.355 × d: 0.315).

Layout: Inscribed on front, between the mouldings (w: 0.405 × h: 0.08 × d: 0.28).

Letters: 0.022; slightly apicated.

Date: Third century BC (lettering).

Findspot: Found on April 26th, 1911, Norton expedition, bought from an Arab, at Cyrene: probably Necropolis.

Place of origin: Findspot.

Last recorded location: Cyrene Museum, inv. number unknown. Seen by C. Dobias-Lalou on May 20th, 1982 in Shahat: outside Cyrene Museum.

Commentary

Masson pointed out early that Morelli had unduly thought this inscription to be unpublished.

This base, which was «brought to camp» (Robinson from De Cou's notebooks), may have been found in anyone of the tombs around Cyrene.
