Support: White marble rectangular base broken into two adjoining fragments, the left one keeping the original height; one footprint on each fragment in the upper side (total w: 0.68 × h: 0.265 × d: 0.365; fragment a w: 0.395 × d: 0.365; fragment b w: 0.375 × h: 0.24 × d: 0.365).

Layout: Inscribed near upper rim.

Letters: 0.035.

Date: End of the fourth century BC (lettering).

Findspot: Found in 1926 at Cyrene: Sanctuary of Apollo, West of the Doric Fountain.

Place of origin: Findspot.

Last recorded location: Seen in 1983 by C. Dobias-Lalou in situ, in the Sanctuary of Apollo.

Commentary

The holes for attachment of a statue imply that this was no funerary base and the place where the base was found shows that it was a dedication to Apollo.
