Source description

Support: Small white marble stele, slightly tapering, with plain moulding on top; upper left corner broken off (w: 0.33-0.37 × h: 0.90 × d: 0.21-0.22; with moulding: 0.40).

Layout: Inscribed 0.10 under moulding.

Letters: 0.03.

Date: Third century BC (lettering).

Findspot: Found before 1933 at Cyrene: Necropolis (Oliverio); perhaps North Necropolis (Thorn).

Place of origin: Findspot.

Last recorded location: Sculpture Museum, inv. number unknown. Seen by C. Dobias-Lalou in May 26th, 1979 in Shahat: in front of ancient Sculpture Museum.

Commentary

The Torns' suggestion that the stele might come from the North Necropolis is based upon the idea that Italian excavations before World War II took place only in that Necropolis.
