Source description

Support: White marble base with double mouldings that are chipped on all sides (w: 0.485 × h: 0.37 × d: 0.41).

Layout: Inscribed on the face between the mouldings (w: 0.435 × h: 0.24 × d: 0.40).

Letters: 0.03-0.035; serifs; phi very small loop.

Date: Second century BC (lettering).

Findspot: Found before 1933 at Cyrene: Necropolis (Oliverio), perhaps North Necropolis (Thorn).

Place of origin: Findspot.

Last recorded location: Cyrene Museum, inv. number unknown. Seen by C. Dobias-Lalou in 1977 in Shahat: in front of ancient Sculpture Museum and again in 1997 in Shahat: Cyrene Museum.

Commentary

The Thorns' probable attribution to the North Necropolis is due to the fact that the Italian archaeologists before World War II were mainly interested by this one.
