Commentary

If we follow Zimi's idea that the kappa is the abbreviation of the vase name, κύλιξ being feminine would fit better with the adjective ἱαρά thant the proposed κάνθαρος; however the relationship between ἱαρά written in full and the huge kappa is unclear. Furthermore, it cannot even be decided whether ἱαρά is the feminine singular or the neutral plural of the adjective. Any way, it seems to mean that the vase belonged to a god or goddess.

What we provisionally read as an illegible character was described by her as 'a trade symbol (a circle cut by two lines)'. We rather think of an accidental scratch..
