Support: Grey marble base broken off at upper left angle with holes for two feet on top (w: 0.69 × h: 0.245 × d: 0.565).

Layout: Inscribed on front face.

Letters: 0.025; slanting sigma.

Date: Second half of fourth century BC

Findspot: Found in 1925 at Cyrene: Sanctuary of Apollo.

Place of origin: Findspot.

Last recorded location: Seen by Pugliese Carratelli in 1960 'in the Temple of Artemis'. Seen by C. Dobias-Lalou in 2001 in front of the same temple.

English translation

Hyperbios son of Akesandros (scil. dedicated this monument) to Apollo as a tithe.

Italian translation

Hyperbios figlio di Akesandros (scil. ha dedicato questo monumento) ad Apollo come decima.

Commentary

The name Ὑπέρβιος is only attested for this man in Cyrenaica. There are a few occurrences elsewhere with no special localisation.
