Layout: Inscribed in two lines on front face (w: 0.34 to 0.39 × h: 1.05 × d: 0.235 to 0.275).

Letters: 0.04; no serifs, symmetrical nu, slanting sigma, widely open upsilon and omega.

Date: Plausibly fourth century BC (lettering).

Findspot: Found before 1960 at Cyrene ➚: plausibly from one Necropolis.

Place of origin: Findspot.

Last recorded location: Cyrene Museum, inv. number unknown. Seen by D. Morelli in 1960 in Shahat: in front of the Casa Parisi, which is part of the Cyrene Museum. Seen in 1979 by C. Dobias-Lalou at the same place.

Commentary

Unfortunately the stone could not be photographed and no squeeze was made. We can only offer a drawing.

The father's name is a variant of Μύρτιλος, which is more common in the region both in reference to the plant which also produced the epithet of Apollo Myrtoos and with the name of a mythical hero (see Dobias-Lalou 2010, p. 98).
