Source description

Support: Limestone panel closing a rock-cut tomb (w: 0.51 × h: 1.5 × d: 0.22).

Layout: Inscribed in two lines on the outer face at ca. 0.35 from top, within guide-lines.

Letters: Line 1 0.029 to 0.039, line 2 0.03; not very carefully cut letters with small serifs in form of dots, alpha with dropped bar, kappa with short oblique bars, non-slanting sigma.

Date: End of second or beginning of first century BC

Findspot: Found by F. Abd el-Karim in 2006 near Ptolemais: in the South-West Necropolis, not far from Tokra Gate.

Place of origin: Findspot.

Last recorded location: Not seen by IGCyr team.

French translation

(scil. Tombe) d'Aialan; à ne pas déplacer.

English translation

(scil. Tomb) of Aialan; not to be moved.

Italian translation

(scil. Tomba) di Aialan; non spostare.

Commentary

This rare use of the adjective ἀκίνητος is one of the many formulas preventing the tomb to be opened, robbed or re-used. A similar mention is to be found at Amphissa (see SEG, 56.566).
