Source description
Support: Fragment from lefthand side of a low base of medium-grained white marble with oval depression on top for offering, damaged along all edges (w: 0.299 × h: 0.11 × d: 0.242).
Layout: Inscribed on front face.
Letters: 0.025; smaller circular letters.
Date: Perhaps second half of third of first half of second century BC (lettering).
Findspot: Found in 1978 during the American excavations at Cyrene ➚: Enclosed sanctuary of Demeter and Kore, area D14/E14.
Place of origin: Findspot.
Last recorded location: Cyrene Museum, Storeroom of the American excavations, 78-708. Seen by J. Reynolds at Shahat: in the Storeroom of the American excavations. Not seen by IGCyr team.

Commentary
Reynolds preferred the restoration of the epithet Θεσμοφόρος, hitherto not attested in Cyrenaica, rather than the mention θεά, which she also thought to be without parallel. In fact the latter is now known on the statue-base of the nearby temple (see IGCyr1148002). If so, there would be space also for Kore's name but the whole formula seems somewhat awkward and it seems preferable to leave the question open.
Most dedications in this sanctuary were made by women, however some men also offered dedications. It is thus impossible to restore the name at line 2.
