Support: Upper left angle of a white marble stele, broken off at right and below, with all edges worn out and the face once convered with a layer of concrete and scratched through many strokes (w: 0.16 × h: 0.22 × d: 0.125).

Layout: Inscribed on the face, which is very difficult to read.

Letters: 0.015-0.02, probably by different hands, with different spaces between lines; no individual hand can be described because of the bad condition of the stone; on the whole, no real serifs, but some thickening ends of strokes; smaller omicron, slanting sigma.

Date: Perhaps second half of third century BC (lettering, nomenclature).

Findspot: Found before 1979 at Cyrene ➚: exact findspot unrecorded.

Place of origin: Findspot.

Last recorded location: Cyrene Museum, 1828. Seen by C. Dobias-Lalou in 1979 in Shahat, Casa Parisi and again in 2001 in the Cyrene Museum.

Commentary

The inscription is so difficult to read that one has to remain very cautious, especially because accidental strokes may be confused with parts of letters. Following Rosamilia 2023's suggested readings, Dobias-Lalou studied again two squeezes made at different dates. She cannot follow all suggestions of Rosamilia's. His main progress is at line 6 with the name Ptolemaios, which, as he puts it, induces to date the list after 250 BC (later than the date proposed in the first edition).

In spite of the poor condition of the stone, the layout, varying hands and spaces are clues for a list of priests. All restorable names belong to the most common stock of Cyrene. As those first names are very common and all fathers' names are missing, it is impossible both to identify any of them and to decide which god they were priests of.
