Source description

Support: Left upper angle of a white marble panel, broken off elsewhere (preserved dimensions 0.145 0.23 0.042), with a dowel hole at left on top, keeping metal inside. It is not clear whether the lower rim is preserved or not.

Layout: Inscribed in three lines on the face, lines 1-2 indented as compared with line 3, which has taller characters.

Letters: Careful letters with small serifs (0.03 at ll. 1-2, 0.048 at l. 3); alpha with straight bar, non-slanting sigma.

Date: Perhaps second or first half of first century BC (lettering).

Findspot: Plausibly found before World War II at Cyrene, exact findspot not registered.

Place of origin: Unknown.

Last recorded location: Cyrene Museum, 253. Seen in 1976 by Dobias-Lalou in Shahat: Cyrene Museum.

Commentary

With so poor vestiges, the reading is highly conjectural. The display might be the same as at IGCyr1087002. The contrast in letter-height and axiality between lines 1-2 and line 3 induces to restore the formula with 'being priest', rather than another personal name such as Ἰἀσων.
