Layout: Inscribed in one line on front face (w: 0.68 × h: 0.155 × d: 0.49).

Letters: 0.033; slightly slanting mu, rather large circular letters, disymmetrical nu, slanting sigma.

Date: Probably fourth century BC (lettering).

Findspot: Found before 1960 at Cyrene ➚: in the North Necropolis.

Place of origin: Findspot.

Last recorded location: Seen in 1960 by D. Morelli 'in the Necropolis'. Seen by C. Dobias-Lalou in 1982 in situ, broken into two pieces, in the North Necropolis, below tombs N 36-37 Cassels.

Commentary

As Morelli did not mention that the base was broken, it was perhaps still complete in 1960. He mentioned the 'Necropolis' without any further precision, but it is clear from the rest of the collection published by him with Pugliese Carratelli that they were only able to have a quick look at part of the North Necropolis. In 1982, when C. Dobias-Lalou saw the base, it was broken, perhaps after having rolled down from a higher position. Therefore, it might have belonged either to N36-N37 or even to N35, just above.
