Commentary

Here is a deeply renewed edition of this inscription. The text of IGCyr was based upon Paci's first edition, which was limited by space and provided limited images. Rosamilia was able to study again most of the fragments edited by Paci, added a small unpublished one (fragment b) and approved Dobias-Lalou's idea that the fragments published as IGCyr128900 and IGCyr129000 also belonged to the stele (here fragments j and k). That new study resulted mainly in a better placement of the two main fragments on behalf of the stapering feature of the stele. Besides a few amended readings of names, Rosamilia was also able to establish some prosopographical relations that helped him to date the two parts of the list. Taking into account the findspot of the fragments found by Luni and published by Paci, he discussed its focus: being cut by different hands, it is a list of priests, but its findspot forbids to assign it to Apollo's cult. It should rather be related to the unknown male deity whose peripteral temple stood at the far end of the Southern Extra-Mural Sacred Zone, mainly dedicated to Demeter. Consequently, Dobias-Lalou 2016's tentative hypothesis bringing together this list with IGCyr1092002 should be duly cancelled.

At i.a.6, Paci duly restored the short name Ἔρα[σις], certainly because of the large space between the preserved letters. A name such as Ἔρασιστρατος would be too long.

At i.a.8, Rosamilia duly does not restore Ἰάσ̣[ων] because Ἴασ̣[ις] would also be possible.

At i.c.17, Rosamilia's restoration is based upon the probable mention of the father with the same inversed names at IGCyr0652102, line 110.

At i.c.23, Paci suggested readings that seem too long. Amongst them a Kallimachos son of Olympiodoros is known from IGCyr0197002: he might be a brother, as suggested by Rosamilia.

At i.c.29 and 30, Rosamilia restored completely the first name and partially the second one, because the same pairs occur in the same order at IGCyr1093002, ll. 12-13.

At i.c.33, Rosamilia's restoration is based upon the probable mention of the father with the same inversed names at IGCyr0652002, line 43.

At ii.a.15, Rosamilia refrains from restoring the father's name, which might be Πολυάρατος as well as Πολύαρχος

At ii.a.17, the name Μεγακλῆς seems a sensible restoration, being well attested in Cyrenaica and having no competitor, as Μεγαλοκλῆς would be too long.

At ii.c.33, none of the proposed restitutions is convincing. Rosamilia proposed Βαλαβος, which is attested once at Ptolemais in the Roman period; however, this is an ephebic graffito, plausibly by a Balbus. In the list of ca 270 BC IGCyr0652002, b.18, one contributor is Ἀρίστων Κο[ττ]άβω, who might be related to the priest mentioned here.

At ii.c.39 [Πο]λυχά[ρμω] seemed a good guess for the father's name. Although not yet attested in Cyrenaica it is a common Rhodian name. However it does not fit exactly the lacunae, as calculated by Rosamilia.

At ii.c.42-43 the father's name was probably Μνᾶσις, whereas the son's name was probably a related Μνᾶσις, Μνασέας or even Μνάσων.

At f.2, it is tempting to restore the father's name as Ελικαν, a Libyan name also attested at IGCyr0091002, b.31. However, as we do not know how much space was available for its long genitive, the restoration should remain hypothetical.
