Source description

Support: Marble base, said by J. Thorn to be 'ornate', which probably means with mouldings of egg and dart on top and below (dimensions unknown).

Layout: Inscribed on the face.

Letters: Height unknown.

Date: Probably fourth or third century BC (context).

Findspot: Seen by L. Cherstich before 2002 at Cyrene: South Necropolis, tomb S9 Cassels, not far from a half-figure statue.

Place of origin: Findspot.

Last recorded location: Not seen by IGCyr team.

Commentary

Kaphisos is a rather rare name, belonging to the series of names of streams used as personal names. This reading seems the most probable instead of the uninterpretable form read by Cherstich.
