EpiDoc XML: IGCyr1255002
Trismegistos ID: 738804

Source description

Support: Fragment of the right edge of a white marble block, carefully smoothened also on the right side; broken above, below and at right (w: 0.04 × h: 0.125 × d: 0.10).

Layout: Inscribed on the face in two sections.

Letters: 0.009, not really apicated; the letters at line a.3 are much pressed together, probably in order to finish the word on that line. Textparts a and b were cut by two different hands, not differing much in shape of letters, but with a higher interval between lines in b than in a. Non-slanting sigma in both, horse-shoe omega, omicron larger at b.1 than at a.3.

Date: Perhaps second century BC (lettering).

Findspot: Probably found before World War II at Cyrene: exact findspot unknown.

Place of origin: Findspot.

Last recorded location: Cyrene Museum, 119. Seen by C. Dobias-Lalou in Shahat: Cyrene Museum.

Text constituted from: Transcription from stone (CDL).

Commentary

Although very fragmentary, this stone should have born at least two different public texts, like in other dossiers such as IGCyr0682002 and followings. However this fragment cannot belong to the same stone.

As to the layout, it is clearly intended so as to have no cutting inside words at the end of lines.

At the end of line a.1, there was probably a prescriptive infinitive.
