Commentary

Ferri mentioned this base as seen by him 'in the sanctuary of Hawa Tunsiya', which he thought was a Mithraeum. In fact, the so-called sanctuary is situated inside a lateral room of the courtyard of tomb S178 and is not related to the funerary use of the main part (see Marini 2018, pp. 221-222). Ferri provided neither description nor image of the base. He only said that he saw it near a half-statue to which it was related. This shows that both items had fallen from the top of the tomb façade into the courtyard and were not related to the possibly later lateral sanctuary.

The name read by Ferri is not plausible in Greek. He probably misread rho for iota. Names in Τεισ(ι)- are attested at Cyrene, although this one is not up to now, but has many occurrences elsewhere.
