Commentary

Two types of reading seem possible for this fragmentary panel, itself only part of a larger monument, as shown by both upper and right sides well prepared for being joint to similar panels, and by the dowel hole at upper right angle. One reading might have the name of the goddess Artemis, plausibly at the genitive or dative case. Alternatively, we would have a personal name, both Καρταγόρας and Καρταιμένης being attested in Cyrenaica. The question should remain open because of the very fragmentary condition of the whole monument.
