Commentary

In spite of the very poor vestiges, we may be sure that we have the end of the first two lines of the inscription.

Because of the monumentality of the inscription, we exclude a beginning such as [ἱαριτεύον]τος. It is by far more plausible that we have here a man's name followed by his father's name. For the same reason, it is probable that no further line was inscribed. The onomastic formula was thus possibly a caption for a statue.
