Layout: Inscribed in two columns on the face, the preserved area of which is more reduced (w: 0.095 × h: 0.095).

Letters: Careful letters, somewhat irregular in height (average height 0.010-0.014) but for phi (0.02) and omega at line 3 (0.008); well marked serifs, alpha with straight bar, non-slanting sigma.

Date: Perhaps end of second or beginning of first century BC (lettering).

Findspot: Plausibly found before World War II at Cyrene ➚, exact findspot not registered.

Place of origin: Findspot.

Last recorded location: Cyrene Museum, 594. Seen in 1977 by Dobias-Lalou in Shahat: Cyrene Museum.

Commentary

The display and lettering allow to ascribe this fragment to a series of contemporary lists of ephebs, most of them being fragmentary. However, the depth of this stone proves that it had a support different from the others and cannot belong to any of them. With the display in two columns, we may be sure that the names are those of the ephebs themselves and not those of their officers.

The bits of personal names still preserved belong to the common stock of the local onomastics.
