Support: Five adjacent fragments of a reconstituted white marble base with mouldings of eggs and darts on upper and lower rims, later reused upside down and hollowed for a basin; broken off at left and in the middle (preserved overall dimensions w: 0.49 × h: 0.37 × d: 0.58).

Layout: Inscribed on front between the mouldings (w: 0.42 × h: 0.25 × d: 0.505).

Letters: 0.035 at ll. 1-2; 0.025 at l. 3.

Date: First half of fourth century BC (lettering).

Findspot: Found in 1925 at Cyrene ➚: in the Sanctuary of Apollo, Temple of Apollo, cella in its 1st phase.

Commentary

Oliverio dated the lettering in the fifth century, which seems too high.

As only eta and an ambiguous letter (lambda or mu) are preserved at left of l. 3, it seems wise to restrain from restoring the sculptor's name, a fortiori to guess that it might be the Lemnian Alcamenes (a guess of Ferri 1932, rejected by all commentators).

Rosamilia 2014, having not found the stone, cautiously expressed some doubts about the readings.
