Last recorded location: Seen by C. Dobias-Lalou in 2004, in vicinity of Myrtle Bower, northward, in the small modern garden. Seen by E. Rosamilia in 2012, presumably at the same place.

Commentary

Iason is a very common name at Cyrene. Names beginning with Phi- are many. So it may seem hazardous to restore the missing parts of this dedication. At line 2, we should wait either the verb of dedication ἀνέθηκε or the name of the god Ἀπόλλωνι. Both words together would be certainly too long for the presumable loss. They are respectively 7 and 8 letters long. The first letter of line 2 is not aligned with that of line 1, while line 1 has one more letter preserved than line 2. Therefore it would be a tempting guess to restore the father's name Φιλοθάλευς, with 8 letters missing: A Philothales son of Iason is known as priest of Apollo about 335 BC (see IGCyr011400², IGCyr094800², IGCyr110000²) and this man would be his son.

Rosamilia 2023, who saw the stone and found traces of the lambda, confirms this restoration.
