Source description

Support: Marble base with original mouldings, probably plain, deeply chipped; broken off on right side without any loss from the inscribed part (w: 0.72 × h: 0.40 × d: 0.50).

Layout: Inscribed between the mouldings (h: 0.20 × d: 0.47); each line centered, with large margins on both sides.

Letters: 0.04; deeply cut, but now worn out.

Date: End of fourth or beginning of third century BC (lettering).

Findspot: Found at an unknown date at Cyrene: Necropolis, probably North Necropolis (Thorn).

Place of origin: Findspot.

Last recorded location: Cyrene Museum, 234. Seen by C. Dobias-Lalou on May 14th, 1977 in Shahat: Cyrene Museum.

Commentary

The Thorns suggested that the base was found in the Northern Necropolis because it is the only part of the necropoleis that was excavated by the Italian archaeologists.
