Source description

Support: Inside a rock-cut tomb-chamber with IGCyr0781002 to IGCyr0786002; dimensions not registered.

Layout: Inscribed above the entrance to a loculus.

Letters: Height unknown.

Date: Perhaps, third century BC (lettering).

Findspot: Copied in 1825 by J.-R. Pacho at Cyrene.

Place of origin: Findspot.

Last recorded location: Seen and copied by S. Applebaum between 1943 and 1945. The tomb was rediscovered in 1969 by S. Farag of the Department of Antiquities on the W. side of the Wadi Bel Ghadir, West Necropolis, thus called 'Tomb Farag'. Seen and photographed by J.M. Reynolds in 1970. Not seen by IGCyr team.

Commentary

At line 1, Reynolds saw an alpha as the first letter and the photograph, although overexposed, seems to confirm this reading, which does not produce any identifiable personal name. Franz's interpretation in CIG 5163 seems definitely preferable, so that we accept to correct the inital letter.
