Source description

Support: Fragment of limestone block chipped off on all sides except on top (w: 0.32 × h: 0.18 × d: 0.075).

Layout: Inscribed on front face

Letters: 0.025; no serifs; alpha with low bar, rho with large loop.

Date: Second third of fourth century BC (lettering, prosopography).

Findspot: Found in 1925 by L. Pernier at Cyrene: Sanctuary of Apollo, Temple of Apollo, re-used in its 3d phase in a wall East of the thesauron.

Place of origin: Cyrene: Sanctuary of Apollo, Temple of Apollo, cella in its 1st phase.

Last recorded location: Cyrene Museum, 297. Seen by C. Dobias-Lalou in 1977 in Shahat: Cyrene Museum.

English translation

Kallippos son of Aiglanor (scil. dedicated this monument) as a tithe.

Kallippos figlio di Aiglanor (scil. ha dedicato questo monumento) come decima.

Commentary

The dedicant should be one of the thearoi sent to Delphi mentioned at IGCyr0641002.

Pernier's archive kept at Macerata gives more information about the discovery (see Bartolini 2014, p. 167, fig. 9).
