Source description

Support: White marble block, broken off at left and right and below (w: 0.08 × h: 0.08 × d: 20.5).

Layout: Inscribed in two lines on top of the face.

Letters: 0.015; smaller omicron, symmetrical nu, small omicron, open and middle-size omega.

Date: End of fourth century BC (lettering).

Findspot: Found before 1960 at Cyrene: plausibly in the Sanctuary of Apollo.

Place of origin: Findspot.

Last recorded location: Cyrene Museum, 397. Seen by C. Dobias Lalou Shahat: Cyrene Museum.

English translation

[---]machos [son of so-and-so] (scil. dedicated this monument) to Apollo as a tithe.

Italian translation

[---]machos [figlio del tale] (scil. ha dedicato questo monumento) ad Apollo come decima.

Commentary

The restorations are quite sure because of the recurrent formulation of such offerings of the tithe.
