Source description

Support: Three adjacent fragments of a white marble panel, broken off at left, right and below (w: 0.415 × h: 0.17 × d: 0.045).

Layout: Inscribed on the face in three lines centered along vertical axis, beginning at 0.03 from the upper edge.

Letters: 0.025; thickening ends of letters, non-slanting mu, symmetrical nu, large omicron.

Date: Beginning of third century BC (lettering, prosopography).

Findspot: Found by G. Oliverio before 1935 at Cyrene: Eastern side of agora, North of the later Temple of Asklepios (also called 'Temple of the Octagonal bases').

Place of origin: Findspot.

Last recorded location: Cyrene Museum, 371. Seen in 1977 by C. Dobias-Lalou in Shahat: Cyrene Museum.

English translation

(scil. Statue of) Charitimos son of Kletomachos dedicated by Kletomachos son of Charitimos.

Commentary

The date and spot of find are indicated from the sketchbook of Oliverio, who had found two out of three fragments. The three of them are now in the Museum, where Morelli observed and published them, unfortunately without photograph.

The dedicant, who is most probably the son of the man honoured by a statue, might also be a man who subscribed ca. 280 BC (IGCyr0652102, i.151).
