Source description

Support: Square panel, probably of white marble, with attachment holes in upper and right edges and also a circular hole on the lower left side (w: 0.345 × h: 0.345).

Layout: Inscribed on front face in four lines with axial layout.

Letters: 0.025 (circular letters); apicated letters, guide-lines; smaller circular letters, dotted theta, xi without vertical stroke, slanting sigma, widely open upsilon.

Date: Between ca. 270 and 260 BC (Rosamilia) (lettering, prosopography).

Findspot: Found between 1934 and 1938 at Cyrene: most probably in the Sanctuary of Apollo.

Place of origin: Findspot.

Last recorded location: Only known from the photograph in Breccia's archive. Probably lost.

Commentary

This inscription is known only through a photograph in the archive of A.E. Breccia (Pisa).

As pointed by Rosamilia, this inscription was probably cut by the same mason as IGCyr0980002.

On behalf of historical and prosopographical considerations, Rosamilia dates this inscription between 270 and 260 BC.
