Source description

Support: Marble base with a plain moulding above and below, associated with a half-figure funerary statue, (dimensions not recorded).

Layout: Inscribed on the face in one line.

Letters: Height unknown, letters pressed close together; no real serifs; alpha with low bar, slightly slanting sigma, very small omicron.

Date: Probably third century BC (lettering).

Findspot: Seen and copied by J.C. Thorn at Cyrene: East Necropolis, tomb E6 Cassels.

Place of origin: Findspot.

Last recorded location: Photographed by D. Thorn in 2002 in situ in the East Necropolis. Not seen by IGCyr team.

Akeusilea daughter of Andromedes.

Akeusilea figlia di Andromedes.

Commentary

The feminine name Ἀκευσιλέα is only attested once in Cyrenaica (IGCyr0163002) and not elsewhere. Her father's name is a hapax, but other names in -μήδης are attested in the region, amongst which the favorite Πρατομήδης.
