Source description

Support: Rock-cut tomb with one door giving access to the chamber; on the front wall false masonry is designed and the door frame forms a large lintel with a moulding above, into which five small niches were cut off later, along with three others on the facade; above again there is a Doric built entablature (dimensions not registered).

Layout: Inscribed on the entablature.

Letters: ca. 0.08; widely open mu, slanting sigma.

Date: Perhaps second century BC (lettering).

Findspot: First copied in 2004 by C. Dobias-Lalou at Cyrene: North Necropolis, tomb N33 Cassels.

Place of origin: Findspot.

Last recorded location: Seen and copied by C. Dobias-Lalou on September 18th, 2004 in situ, in the North Necropolis.

Commentary

The rather irregular lettering and the single mu in the father's name give an impression of carelessness. The date is thus rather conjectural. It is not impossible that the inscription is contemporary with one or more niches for small busts, hence dating from Roman times.
