Commentary

The shape of the stone, an oblong panel, lets us suppose that each line contained more than one name. Furthermore, line 2 has letters not really different in style, but a bit smaller than at line 1. Each line thus contained probably a name followed by the related father's name. Anyhow, both lines were probably cut by the same hand, exluding the hypothesis of a list of priests, an idea which would also be discarded by the type of support.

Generally speaking, the name Φιλύτας is rather rare, but it is more frequent at Cyrene, one occurrence near in date being in IGCyr1040002. A very small vestige of hasta above the break at line 2 allows to exclude an alpha and to read an iota, whence the name Εὖφρις rather than Εὐφράνωρ, both the compound form and the shorter one being typical in Cyrenaica.
