Commentary

This account seems to be the most ancient one that is divided into semesters, but not inscribed in columns. The only other sure instances for such a layout are IGCyr0137002, IGCyr0138002 and IGCyr0141002, which all show a somewhat later lettering. The fragment was published as coming from Apollo's sanctuary. However, this provenance is dubious, as all other accounts of damiergoi were found on the agora.

At l. 6, as Fraser put it, the word preceding πισσαί might be an adjective relating to it, such as μαλακαί or σκληραί, but its place would be abnormal and there is no parallel in other accounts. Rosamilia 2023 has a more tantalzing hypothesis, as he groups together peas with chickpeas, two newcomers in the accounts of that period. One argument is that Ι is rare as a numeral glyph to be associated with a preceding lost product. However, as it happens that annual totals end with this small currency, there is no reason to exclude it wholly from detailed prices. As we have no instance of grouped products, we prefer to let the question open.

At l. 8, Fraser restored 'wine', as he identified the rare word σμιρεύς, hitherto known only from Hesychius, who mentions it as a unit of measure for wine. Since then, the same unit has been identified by Dobias-Lalou in other accounts for wine and also for oil. So we cannot be quite sure that the missing product here was wine (see Dobias-Lalou 2020).

For the local variation in the name of 'garlic' (line 7), see Dobias-Lalou 2000, p. 37 and 201.

Magas, being mentioned as priest, gives a precise lapse of time for the date.
