Source description

Support: Part of a white, perhaps Parian, marble stele, broken at top and bottom and also on both sides (w: 0.33 × h: 0.42 × d: 0.19).

Layout: Inscribed on front face; on the reverse face, traces of one letter might show a reuse in the Roman times.

Letters: 0.022; circular letters: 0.018; disymmetrical nu, dotted theta, large delta.

Date: End of fifth or first half of fourth century BC

Findspot: Found before 1995 at Cyrene: North Necropolis (Haleg Shaloof).

Place of origin: Findspot.

Last recorded location: Cyrene Museum, 3573. Seen by C. Dobias-Lalou in 1997 in Shahat: Cyrene Museum.

Commentary

The lost part at the beginning of line 1 is slightly shorter than at line 2, where Ξάνθιππος should be restored with certainty. The two letters ΔΙ are thus an appropriate guess.
