Source description

Support: Lower right angle of a white marble base with a hole for attachment on top, broken off at left, on top and behind (w: 0.26 × h: 0.20 × d: 0.175).

Layout: Inscribed on front face.

Letters: 0.03; carefully cut, slight serifs.

Date: Third century BC (lettering).

Findspot: Found in 1926 by G. Oliverio at Cyrene: in the great hall of the Trajanic Baths.

Place of origin: Cyrene: Sanctuary of Apollo.

Last recorded location: Cyrene Museum, 500. Seen by C. Dobias-Lalou in 1977 in Shahat: Cyrene Museum.

Commentary

The inscription was edited by Pugliese Carratelli from Oliverio's notebook X, which contains the finds of year 1926.

A man named Θεύδωρος Νικίππω is mentioned as a contributor at IGCyr0652102 line 26 (about 280 BC). However, to restore this name here may seem a far-fetched guess.
