Commentary

We have a list of personal names with fathers' names written successively by different hands. This practice is proven for eponymous priests of Apollo and Dobias-Lalou 2016 supposed that this list was also a list of eponymous priests, although the findspots and publication places of both fragments were different from one another and different from the ordinary findspots of such lists, i.e. the agora and the sanctuary of Apollo. Rosamilia 2023 now offers a more convincing view. Τaking into account the findspot of fragment b, for which there exist some clues for a cult of Ammon, whose sanctuary was never positively proven, he argues that the priests listed here should be his.

The inscription on the broad side (i) shows both a more convenient layout and a somewhat older lettering and would have been inscribed first. Later on, lack of space induced to continue the list on the righthand side. On this side (ii), the list was interrupted when it reached the area already inscribed with IGCyr1092002 and went on below it after the explicit subtitle ἱαρές.

At IGCyr, we had already noticed that two men bearing the same names and fathers' names are mentioned as contributors in the long list dated about 270 BC, namely Τιμαγένης Εὐκλεῦς (here side ii, ll. 27-28) at IGCyr0652102, ii.88 and Ἰάσων Παραίβιος (here side ii, ll. 29-30) at IGCyr0652102, i.144, whereas Φιλόξηνος Χαρτάδα (here ii, ll. 38-39) might be the son of Χαρτάδας Φιλοξένω, who is mentioned in the twin list IGCyr0652002, b.5. Rosamilia 2023 now endorses those relations: the two first mentioned subscribers would be grandfathers of the priests in our list. Thus a date for this side towards the end of the third and the beginning of the first century.

In the former list (side i) Rosamilia establishes further prosopographical links with the subscribers list IGCyr0652102 for two priests whose full names he restores as Ἀρθμιάδας Εὐφράνορος (here i.7, there i.16) and Εὔιππος Λεντίχω (here i.10, there i.40). This helps him to date the beginning of this list at the same time as the large subscription, about 270 BC.

As a further step, Rosamilia noticed that the men mentioned here at i.29 and 30 are also mentioned, in reverse order, in IGCyr1150002, 236 and 237. Consequently, both lists are related to two different cults. This invalidates Dobias-Lalou 2016's hypothesis, cautiously reported in IGCyr, that both lists might belong to the same ensemble. We have to do with two different cults, both practised on opposite sides of the road leading to Balagrae and to the Western cities of Cyrenaica.

At line ii.16 Pugliese Carratelli's restoration [Πρ]άξιος might be attractive because a Praxis son of Theuchrestos is mentioned as commander of batallion of riders at IGCyr0840002, l. 12, about 340 BC. However the span of time between both mentions might be up to one century and both names are quite common at Cyrene. Moreover another frequent name which might be restored here is Anaxis. So we feel that the question should remain open.

At line ii.8 Rosamilia duly read a sigma instead of the xi read by Pugliese Carratelli. Three letters might have stood at the beginning of the line. In the stock up to now attested in Cyrenaica only Τεισίμαχος fits the requisites and would be a very plausible restoration. It is also attested with a later lettering at ii.45.
