Findspot: Found in 1974 during the American excavations at Cyrene ➚: Enclosed sanctuary of Demeter and Kore, in the surface fill of the fifth terrace.

Commentary

The personal name at the genitive case at l. 1 seems to be the father's name, probably of the donor.

At line 2, the preserved letters are probably, as suggested by J.M. Reynolds, part of the title 'bodyguard', for which either σωματοφύλαξ or the upper rank ἀρχισωματοφύλαξ would be possible (the latter already attested at IGCyr015500²). If so, the inscription might mention honours for a Lagid officer or emanating from him. Anyhow it would reinforce the feeling that the inscription dates before the end of the Hellenistic monarchy in Cyrenaica.
