Source description

Support: Grey marble circular base with double plain mouldings (h: 0.67; diameter 0.58); broken-off on top and down.

Layout: Inscribed between the mouldings.

Letters: 0.035; very carefully cut (small circular letters, four-strikes sigma, phi with small flat loop).

Date: End of third or beginning of second century BC (lettering).

Findspot: Found by R.M. Smith and E.A. Porcher in 1861 at Cyrene: Sanctuary of Apollo, near N-E angle of Temple of Apollo .

Place of origin: Findspot.

Last recorded location: Seen by C. Dobias-Lalou on May 22nd, 1983 at Cyrene: Sanctuary of Apollo, Temple of Artemis, pronaos (perhaps brought there in modern times).

Commentary

Although not further mentioned, this priest was the eponymous priest of Apollo. His name is given with the koine instead of the predictable dialectal form.
