Source description

Support: Right part of light grey marble block, broken at left and behind (w: 0.33 × h: 0.38).

Layout: Inscribed on face.

Letters: At lines 1 and 2, 0.03; at line 3 0.01.

Date: Plausibly between 290 and 260 BC (Rosamilia) (lettering).

Findspot: Found in 1927 at Cyrene: Sanctuary of Apollo, reused as coping stone for the sustaining wall north of the sanctuary.

Place of origin: Cyrene: certainly from the Sanctuary of Apollo.

Last recorded location: Seen by C. Dobias-Lalou in 2010 near Hekate's temple.

[Untel fils de Philo]kômos (scil. a érigé ce monument) au cours de (scil. telle ou telle magistrature).

Commentary

At line 2, there was probably a participle, such as ἱαριτεύων (while he was priest) or τελεσφορέων (while he was telesphoros) vel sim.

As pointed by Rosamilia 2014, a very large part of all lines has been lost, so that at line 3, in addition to name and father's name, an ethnic was perhaps mentioned.

In his catalogue of the eponymous priests, Rosamilia 2023, convinced that the office at line 2 is the eponymous priesthood, suggests a date in the period of Magas, between 290 and 260.
